Urinary Catheter Care and Management

The training will develop and extend the knowledge and skills of care workers and disability support workers who provide care to clients who have a urinary catheter and require support. A catheter is a tube that can be inserted into a person’s bladder to drain urine into an external connected bag when they experience urinary retention or incontinence, difficulties from prostate surgery, or both. The session focuses on a basic introduction of urinary systems, catheter care, types, indications, hydration, procedures, infection control, troubleshooting, and reporting to healthcare professionals for any concern to ensure effective and safe care.

Participants will have an opportunity to practice their skills during the training session, and will be encouraged to ask questions. A certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants upon successful completion of the training.
