High Intensity Support Skills Program – 2 day workshop

This two-day workshop training will focus on upskilling disability support workers in high intensity speciality skills and will enhance client safety at the workplace. Community services in disability, mental health and aged care need to comply with the NDIS Workforce Capability Framework. Our two-day high intensity support skills workshop is aligned with NDIS skills descriptors. The workshop will enhance support workers’ skills knowledge and confidence to provide high quality services for clients with complex needs. It will be delivered face-to-face by a registered nurse or there is an online option.

Day 1 will focus on diabetes support practical skills, assisting with complex bowel care and assisting individuals with PEG feeding, while day 2 will focus on urinary catheter care and management, epilepsy management and complex wound care support and management.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • These workshops will focus on best practice for infection prevention, maintaining safety, minimising trauma, following correct policies and procedures, seeking help from the team and healthcare professionals for concerns, reporting incidents, and monitoring and reporting side effects.
  • It also includes implementing the best techniques and methods for procedures while maintaining respect, dignity and privacy for clients with complex needs.
  • Participants will have an opportunity to practice their skills during the training sessions, and will be encouraged to ask questions.
  • A certificate of completion will be issued to all participants upon successful completion of the training including practical assessment, and certificates are valid for one year.
