Epilepsy and Midazolam Awareness Training

The training session is designed for disability support workers, aged care workers and community care workers who work with clients who have epilepsy. The session focuses on a basic understanding of epilepsy, types of epilepsy and how to manage and support someone who has a seizure, while maintaining safety.

Participants will have an opportunity to practice their skills during the training session, and will be encouraged to ask questions. A certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants upon successful completion of the training.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the relevant aspects of anatomy and physiology
  • Understand epilepsy and its causes
  • List the classification of seizures
  • List the triggering factors
  • Explain the role of a support worker in managing seizures, supporting, and providing first aid and calling an ambulance
  • Administer medication (midazolam)
  • Monitor, record and document seizures
