Completion of Assist with Medication Training is a prerequisite for this course. Participants from this course will gain an in-depth understanding of diabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, insulin, hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia, oral diabetic medications, and the necessity of good food and lifestyle modifications. Participants from this training course will gain skills and knowledge in diabetes management and support for their diabetic clients, as well as an understanding of the importance of a diabetes management plan prepared and monitored by a health practitioner. Furthermore, the training provides education to assist a person in implementing their diabetes management plan, as well as identifying and responding to hypoglycaemic episodes; however, it does not confer delegation of insulin administration, support, management, or care by HealthNsure Training and its employees. The employer receiving training for their support workers is responsible for delegating insulin administration to their support workers based on their appraisal of their competency and compliance with the necessary policies, procedures and infrastructure in place.
Participants will have an opportunity to practice their skills during the training session, and will be encouraged to ask questions. A certificate of attendance is issued to all participants upon successful completion of the training.
At the end of the course the participants will be able to:
